The Economy (Taylor's Version)
Justin Paul helped contribute research and a quote about Taylor's remarkable and unprecedented merchandise sales before, during, and after her concerts. Article by Rachel Lerman and her colleagues (Abha Bhattarai & Emily Sabens)
"At the venues, merch lines were long — inside and at trucks parked outside. Justin Paul, a DJ, producer, and creative director who teaches music business courses at UCLA, came up with a conservative estimate — $864,000 for each show — for Swift’s merch sales inside venues by using the number of people at each show and an average of how much concertgoers typically spend on merch. Still, Swift is a special case." Washington Post
Post Punk Feature: Electro Artist THE MODEL Combine Sound and (Void) Vision for a Late Night Remix of “Little Dreams”
Philadelphia has always been a haven for some of the scene’s more salacious, under-the-radar projects. In 1997, The Model formed, tapping into the undersung electronics scene that was just churning underneath the surface, ready to explode just a few short years later. Combining the dark electronic experimentation of The Human League with the swagger of vocalists such as Michael Hutchence and Dave Gahan, the band gained momentum and released two albums, with mainstay Markie producing and playing with New York’s Class Actress. However, The Model never fully disappeared, with new singles appearing in recent years. The latest, 2023’s “Little Dreams,” co-produced and written by Justin Paul, was as addictive and masterful as anything that came before, and we’re honored to share the video of a remix of the track by Void Vision, who has been a champion of the minimal electronic scene since 2009.
